When the game begins, you are drowning and wash up on the beach. The man that finds you, gives some information then guides you toward the city of Tortage. In front of you, there is a tied up woman with a gold exclamation point on her head. Grab the quest she has (kill someone on the beach), and head back toward the beach, on your left will be the man you should kill. You can continue down the beach on both sides if you wish, there are lots more mobs and a few treasure chests which can yield some good starter items. Once ready to start heading to Tortage, go up and finish your quest with the damsel in distress. She will follow you for a ways now, just follow the path killing all enemies on your way. There might be some detours which usually end up as a dead-end with a treasure chest. All are worth getting if this is your first character (money and what not) but usually you just are trying to get to Tortage quickly. You will come upon a man guarding a gate, and after the cut scene, you need to kill him. The gate is locked, and you will need to head to the left of the gate, into a village of Picts to find the key. Fight your way to the back and kill a boss who is standing near a glowing stone that you interact with for the key. Head back to the gate and head on through. Just a few more mobs on your way to Tortage. Once you reach the city, there is a man in front who says you cannot get into the city with shackles on, you must see the blacksmith behind you. Head back and talk with him, he needs some stone from a quarry close by. Head along the path North and fight your way to the quarry in the back. Be careful, there is a boss on the left side who is relatively difficult for level 5. Gather stones, bring them back and get your shackles off. Talk to the man in front of town again and he will give you another quest to deliver a note to the Inn. Now you can enter Tortage where you will head to the inn which is conveniently located at the first building on your right. Finish the quest, and she will give you a quest that will take you to Night Tortage. Finishing this quest will help you find your trainer, who you will go back to several times until you are level 20. At this point you can do things out of order, but I’ll continue to describe what I would consider the most efficient way to level up to 20. Stay in Night Tortage and complete quests until you are unable to continue, which should happen around level 8-9, and the next quest is only available at 10+. Talk to your trainer and go over to Day Tortage, gather a ton of quests, complete as many as you can until you are 10. Once you are 10, switch back over to Night and continue your quest line. You will eventually get to a point where your next quest is for level 15+, and you will most likely be 13-14. Switch back over to Day and take on some more quests. If you are able to group with people, now is the time to do it. At 13-15, you can gather decent experience in any of the 3 dungeon zones available (Tortage Underhalls, White Sands Isle, Acheronian Ruins). With a good group, you can finish any of those zone’s quests very quickly. You really don’t have to group, you can farm or just look for solo’ able quests. Once you get up to 15, you can go continue your quest line, but I think it helps to get a few more levels under your belt for combos, feats, hp, etc. You eventually want to be 19 when you hit your final quest. Upon completion of your final destiny quest, you will be allowed to travel to your homeland. Don’t worry about coming back, there are ways to get back to Tortage if you want to help friends out or what not.
